Comte de Saint Venant Vouvray
is a Chenin Blanc (white) from Chateau de Valmer, a family-owned vineyard in the Loire Valley of France. Father and son both work hard to create the lovely wines from this property, and we think this Vouvray is a lovely expression of the soil, local plants, weather, and all the other mysterious forces that influence how a wine looks, smells and tastes. This fine Vouvray presents a harmonious nose with lime, nuts and citrus aromas. There is a light sweetness on the front end that transitions to a drier minerality on the finish. Enjoy this wine as an apéritif, or with fish and white meats – – as well as savory sauce dishes and cheeses.
The Mirasso family has been making wine in the California hills since 1854, when Pierre Pellier sailed to America carrying his precious grape vine cuttings. At one point when water on the ship became scarce, Pierre purchased potatoes on board and carefully inserted his vine cuttings into them to preserve them until he arrived in America. Pierre’s daughter Henrietta married Pierre Mirassou, a neighboring vintner who helped improve the family’s vineyards. The Mirassou family, now in its sixth generation of winemaking, is the oldest winemaking family in America – – even surviving Prohibition by selling sacramental wine to the Catholic Church.
Mirassou Sunset Red
is a soft, friendly, very approachable new off-dry red we are introducing this week, and we think it is a great value for weekday enjoyment. This soft red leads with Pinot Noir, and it also has a bit of Zinfandel and Merlot to round out the palate and mouthfeel. The result is a really nice, easy-drinking wine that is great to just sit around and sip!
is a third generation, family-owned Argentinian winery that opened its doors in 1928. Bianchi Winery is greatly respected for its traditional Argentinian wines, which are staples at the finest restaurants and most chic bars and clubs in Buenos Aires – – and are also found in the country’s best wine shops.
New Age Red is our lovely, lightly sweet favorite from Valentin Bianchi. With a slight sparkle and a nose reminiscent of roses and violets, this wine opens to a palate of fresh cherries and red raspberries. We think this beautiful little Bonarda-Malbec blend is perfect for our sweet wine lovers!
